What it is
The Monster Power Grid 300 is a 296 wHr power bank from Monster, a brand you may remember from the home and car audio world. The power bank has a robust exterior and is available in a variety of color schemes. Highlights include a large selection of ports, with 3 USB-A (standard USB) ports, and a single USB-C port providing 60W of power. There’s also a wireless charging pad, and a solid build with a beefy carrying handle.
Who it’s For
The 300-500 wHr power bank class is perfect for group road trips with 2-6 people, or solo missions where you have a half dozen devices that might need charging (think: off-grid filming session with phones, cameras, drones, radios, and laptops). Despite the inclusion of two AC plugs, the unit’s inverter is limited to 300W, so you won’t be able to power hungry AC devices like hot plates, heaters, or coffee makers, but you’d burn through the battery quite quickly with those devices anyway.
If you’re not looking to power hungrier devices like coolers or household appliances, the Power Grid 300 is the right size for a weekend camping trip or extended road trip. However, you’ll have a somewhat difficult time assessing how much power you have left. The display is missing key data like a battery percentage, current power output, or the gold standard of information: estimated run time remaining.
- Versatile Power Source: This portable backup battery power supply allows you to charge up to 9 devices. It comes with an 110W wireless charging pad, LED flashlight, 3 USB-A ports (7.2A shared), 60W USB-C port, 2 AC outlets, 12V DC output, and a 12V car port.
- Power Your Day: Regardless of where you are, the Power Grid will keep almost anything powered. You can use it as a battery backup power supply in emergency situations at home, on road trips, camping, hunting and other outdoor activities.
- Power Whenever You Need It: One of the most convenient outdoor generators on the market, the Monster Power Station provides a portable charging station and a built-in LED flashlight for use in night time emergencies or during an outage.
- Portable and Compact: The Power Grid is small enough to be carried in hand or placed in your car trunk for electric portable power anywhere you go. It's a perfect portable generator for camping as it comes with an outlet to plug in a mini 60W fridge.
Pros & Cons
Heavy
Great selection of ports
All the goodies are onboard, with 3 x USB-A, 1 X USB-C, 12V and two AC ports.
Nice build
Solid plastics, a “bumper” in an accent color, and beefy handle make the unit feel like it could take some abuse.
Lifetime Warranty
Monster offers a lifetime warranty for the Power Grid 300.
Lightweight
Low-Info Display
The display is missing key data like battery percentage remaining, and current power output. These metrics let you assess how much power you have left versus the multi-segment battery bar.
Slow charging speeds
It takes about 8 hours to fully charge the unit. Fine for occasional use but could be problematic on a road trip with limited charging time in the evening.
Another goofy light
Please stop putting flashlights on power banks that don’t illuminate the ports where light might actually be useful!
High Sticker Price
MSRP is 10-30% higher than competitors, although you can find competitive deals and the lifetime warranty may be valuable.
